Bio:
“Captivating melodies, Sumptuous story-telling, exquisite harmonies delivered with an unforgettable folk sound - that’s Drifting Tunes in a nutshell.”
For over three decades, Clare McNaul and Blain Bovee, the Edmonton-based duo Drifting Tunes, have performed together, honing their signature blend of Roots & Folk with an Americana polish. Their's is a sound so inviting it envelops listeners like a warm hug. Clare’s earthy vocals weave together with Blain’s tender harmonies, setting the stage for satisfying and memorable performances. It all began with a chance encounter at a Deadwood saloon on a South Dakota afternoon. Since then, Clare and Blain have collaborated in music and life, eventually co-founding the six-member Ontario-based Celtic-folk band Crazy Man Michael, with whom they performed at gigs, events, and festivals across Ontario, Canada. When the CMM musical odyssey came to an end, they became the duo, Drifting Tunes. Embarking on an adventure through Appalachia and traveling deep into the desert Southwest in a ’92 Econoline van named ‘Harles,’ they did LA house concerts, played with desert rats in local bands, and performed at Friday night gigs in dusty Saloons deep in the Mojave. It was here they discovered the beating heart of Roots, Americana, Gospel, and Cowboy blues which has shaped their music and performance to this day. Drifting Tunes’ sets feature cover songs by legendary singer-songwriter influences such as Townes Van Zandt, Lyle Lovett, Gillian Welch, and Gram Parsons, which are interspersed with their own original, story driven songs inspired by their experiences traveling across vast landscapes and meeting the people they’ve encountered. Their songs transport listeners to far away places and transform ordinary moments into memorable, poignant, and at times, humorous slice-of-life stories. "Drifting Tunes are a treat to watch. Their warm harmonies are accompanied by skillful instrumentation, and they engage meaningfully with the audience. Supported by wonderful storytelling, their's is a performance you won't soon forget." |
